Position Overview:

Designs and implements a variety of activity therapies focusing on each patient's needs with the objective of fostering positive interactions, coping skills, enrichment and community integration. Ensures that the activities meet each patient's recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs while complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards of care. Typically provides services to geriatric population in a variety of settings that may include other populations with special needs. Documents and records individual evaluation and treatment plans in accordance with the multidisciplinary treatment team procedures and applicable regulations. Educates patients and their families/caregivers on their treatment plan, progress, and options to restore independence and functional capacity.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's: Arts Therapy, Psychology, or related field

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Familiar with basic activities therapies, devices and equipment, and the ability to adapt activities to various levels of patient function and skill level.
• Working knowledge of The Joint Commission, Title 22, and Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) as they relate to activities therapy.
• General understanding of medical terminology, including working proficiency in activity interest surveys, Minimum Data Set (MDS) and Resident Assessment Protocol (RAP) evaluations.
• Possesses solid written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and teaching skills to explain treatments, diagnoses, or sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.
• Program development/administration skills, including effective group leadership skills.
• Attention to detail with good time management with sound observation and organizational skills.
• Basic experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and EPIC.
• Ability to work in an environment with aged, chronically ill, disoriented, and sometimes contentious patients.
• Ability to prioritize assignments under varied and urgent conditions and work within procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
• Ability to perform detailed tasks thoroughly and completely, using existing procedures to identify and solve routine or standard problems.
• Ability to ensure the privacy of each patient’s Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with patients, their families/caregivers, peers, and other healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) to provide the highest quality of patient care.

Pay Range: $39.59 to $53.44 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
